"HELL NO, DON'T GO": Antiwar

The concept of Antiwar was not put into the spotlight until the Vietnam War. This Antiwar Movement in particular was the "first mass movement against a war in American history and one of its greatest moral crusades, yet most Americans recall only enormous protests and social chaos" (Zimmerman, New York Times). With the United States being labeled, "the land of the free",  I had a feeling Antiwar websites did exist but knew they were closely monitored by the government to keep them discrete. This is due to the social distress that the topic of war causes. We are taught about wars throughout our years of education but when entering adulthood, the average American citizen does not keep up with the status of U.S. troops and it is very rarely if ever making headlines on the main news channels.

Psychology, the topic of war in hard to put into perspective if you've never truly experienced. In middle and high school I remember discussing the amount of human deaths that occurred within each war as well as the amount of horses and other animals that were killed. I remember the reactions from other students when they heard the animal deaths but thought nothing of those that scarified their lives for their country, once again proving that war is something that you can't process within your mind. I, too, am guilty of this. The government and media hides this topic as they feel we as citizens can't process and will have opposing opinions on the topic. Although both statements are mostly true, the topic of war should be discussed as it is a privilege for someone like myself to be represented by courageous men and women, allowing a feeling of safety and security.
